earthbongo's Privacy Policy is designed to help you understand how we collect and use the personal information you decide to share, and help you make informed decisions when using our site.We want people of all agesto create projects and teams for our site and to participate in others’ projects and teams. By using or accessing earthbongo, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
The Information We Collect
At earthbongo it's our policy to create website content that requires minimum collection of personally identifiable information from our visitors. When you register with earthbongo, you create your own public profile. Your public profile information, which includes your full name if you are 13 or over (or your first name plus last initial if you are under 13), your photo (if you are 13 or over), and at your discretion, the city where you live, are displayed to people who access your public profile. We do not display or otherwise share your email address. We may occasionally use your email address to send you notifications regarding new services offered by earthbongo that we think you may find valuable.
When you use earthbongo, you may set up your personal profile page, start projects and teams, participate in others’ projects and teams, send messages within earthbongo using bong-mail, perform searches and queries, add stories, comments, news, questions, answers, and transmit information through various channels. We collect this information so that we can provide you the service.
When you enter earthbongo, we collect your browser type and IP address. This information is gathered for all earthbongo visitors. In addition, we store certain information from your browser using "cookies." A cookie is a piece of data stored on a user's computer tied to information about the user that we keep securely on our servers. One way we use session ID cookies is to confirm that a user is logged in. By default, we use a persistent cookie that stores your login ID (but not your password) to make it possible to display a customized view of earthbongo based on your profile, projects, and teams. You can remove or block this cookie using the settings in your browser, however, the site is built on the assumption that your cookies are enabled.
For Children Under 13
Children under 13 may only access our site with the consent of their parent or legal guardian. Our registration form requires kids to provide us with contact information: first name, last initial, email address and demographic information (age, gender, state/province). This information is used to get in touch with users if necessary. In connection with our parental consent process, for kids under 13 we collect their birthdate, location, gender and parent/guardians email and physical address. We send the parent/legal guardian a confirmation email to which they must respond and a consent form they must sign and submit in order to activate the child’s account. The parents email address is retained in our database for future contact. We may contact parents to let them know how the child is using earthbongo.
We request that children under 13 not share any personally identifiable information. Accordingly, earthbongo limits the display of information from children to what is known as non-personally identifiable information (e.g. screen name (first name plus last initial), country, city and state. This allows kids to participate in our online community without sharing unnecessary personal information. We do, however, encourage limited personally identifiable information (e.g. kid's email address and/or email address of parent, or appropriate third party), in order to provide useful information back to the parent or child. earthbongo does not condition a kid's participation in any of our online activities on the public disclosure of more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in the activity.
earthbongo allows children under 13 to upload an image that they can use to identify themselves on the site. However, children under 13 are not allowed to upload a photo of themselves, or any other image that would identify them personally. What often works well for children under 13 are nature photos, or scans or digital images of pictures they drew themselves.
Use of Information Obtained by earthbongo
Your information is used by earthbongo primarily to be presented back to and edited by you when you access the service and to be presented to others who view your project page.
Profile information you submit to earthbongo will be available to users of earthbongo. Your name, your projects, and profile picture thumbnail will be available in search results across the earthbongo network and those limited pieces of information may be made available to third party search engines. This is primarily so other users can find your projects and join in. (Again, children under 13 are not permitted to upload photos of themselves as part of their public profile, and they also are not identified by their full last name.)
earthbongo may send you service-related announcements from time to time. For instance, if a user sends you a new message, or someone posts a comment relating to your project, you may receive an email alerting you to that fact. Generally, you may opt out of such emails, though earthbongo reserves the right to send you notices about your account even if you opt out of all voluntary email notifications.
earthbongo may use information on your public profile page, or any other pages on the site, without identifying you as an individual to third parties. We do this so that we might be able to analyze and share statistical and aggregate information about our site and our users. Such as, it may be beneficial to us and others to know how many people using our site are from a specific zip code.
Sharing Your Information with Third Parties
earthbongo is all about sharing information with others. We allow you to choose the information you provide to others. Our network architecture and how you design your public profile page, your project pages, and your team pages allow you to make informed choices regarding the type of information you share. We do not provide contact information to third party marketers without your permission. We share your information with third parties only in limited circumstances where we believe such sharing is 1) reasonably necessary to offer the service, 2) legally required or, 3) permitted by you. For example:
- Unlike most sites on the Web, earthbongo limits access to site information by third party search engine "crawlers" (e.g. Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask). earthbongo takes action to block access by these engines to personal information beyond your name, profile picture, and limited aggregated data about your profile (e.g. number of hits on your project).
- We may be required to disclose user information pursuant to lawful requests, such as subpoenas or court orders, or in compliance with applicable laws. We do not reveal information until we have a good faith belief that an information request by law enforcement or private litigants meets applicable legal standards. Additionally, we may share account or other information when we believe it is necessary to comply with law, to protect our interests or property, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity perpetrated through the earthbongo service or using the earthbongo name, or to prevent imminent bodily harm. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, agents or government agencies.
When you use earthbongo, certain information you post or share with third parties, such as personal information, comments, messages, photos, and videos, may be shared with other users. All such sharing of information is done at your own risk. Please keep in mind that if you disclose personal information on your project page or in comments you make, this information may become publicly available.
Also, users of our site may offer free items for participating in a project, businesses may offer coupons and you may be able to enter into a contest. Participation in any of these offerings is at your own risk and earthbongo is not responsible for the quality of the good or service offered. Furthermore, earthbongo cannot control how these third parties may use the information you provide in order to take advantage of such free items, coupons or contests.
