I took a moment the other day to really look at what's on offer in my favorite grocery store's bulk aisle - so much! It's a great way to both save money and decrease the landfill load, but somehow I'm usually on auto-pilot when I'm shopping, short on time, and so I grab my stand-by packages of habit.
I decided then to commit to buying one staple in bulk for the rest of the year... my choice? Rolled oats. We eat oatmeal twice a week or so for breakfast in my house, and while I usually buy Bob's, which is fairly low on the packaging burden, I transfer it when I get home into another container anyway: why not buy it in bulk to begin with?
So what's your choice? Granola? Couscous? Beans? Pretzels? Caramels? :) Just bin it!
I had a moment yesterday when I was in a store and saw the Quaker Oats container, and thought... I need oats, I'll just grab.... wait: No. And headed myself over to the bulk aisle. It's hard to break old habits, but kinda neat to have a little earthbongo voice urging me to be more mindful about my choices. I'm thinking to add in another bulk item now -- I'll report in what I choose. cheers.

This will be hard for me, but I'm joining-up anyway. Mine will be beans. We eat crazy amounts of beans.

magical fruit!
